Denmark is the world leader in Renewable Energy. A recent report issued by the Danish Energy Agency (http://www.ens.dk/en-us) highlights some of the key points in Denmark's Energy Economy.
- Energy Consumption fell by 4% from 2008 to 2009 (5.5% reductions in transport sector, 10.8% in the Agriculture and Industry sector and 3.5% in households)
- Share of Renewable Energy in the total energy production rose from 18.8% to 19.7%.
- Carbon Dioxide emissions fell by 3.6%.
- Denmark is the only country in the EU that is self - sufficient in producing its own energy.
- From 1990 to 2009, the total production of Renewable energy went up by 150%. (Solar went up by 480% and production of wind energy went up by an astounding 1000%). Also, the amount of electricity produced by Renewable means went up by 463%.
- A total of 5107 wind turbines produce 3482 MW of Wind Energy.
- From 1990 to 2009, Per Capita production of Carbon Dioxide has gone down by 24.7%. The share of Renewable Energy in the total energy produced has gone up by 1270%.
